Bodybuilding Passion or Obsession ?

Recently, bodybuilding has become a practice present in the lives of millions of people. The number of followers is increasing, as well as the number of gyms, fitness professionals and products that help shape the ideal body.

Many practitioners end up falling in love with the activity, making it part of their lifestyle, however, in some cases, bodybuilding becomes an obsession and what was once beneficial can become a big problem.

Cases are more frequent than you might think. It is common to find the famous "gym rats". The term refers to that individual who, no matter when you go to the gym, is always there, training, training and training. He or she is always looking for new sets, mind-blowing workouts and magic supplements. If you identify yourself with any of the aforementioned "symptoms", you may be overdoing it in your sports practice.

Weight training is an extremely beneficial activity for body and mind. Being a complete modality, it relieves stress, stiffens the body, delays old age, fights health problems caused by a sedentary lifestyle, increases your mood and, of course, helps your look. However, it is important to stay alert so that it does not become a priority in your life.

There have been reports of cases in which the individual's only subject is the gym, training, supplements, food, to the point of distancing himself from friends, relatives, girlfriend, etc. Becoming obsessed is not beneficial, and when the subject is bodybuilding it is no different.

As mentioned above, many times an individual believes that by training every day, more and more, they will reach their goal faster. This completely mistaken thought is characterised as Adonis Syndrome or Vigorexia (known as overtraining).

The marked immediacy in your way of thinking is one of the causes of overtraining. Look out for symptoms such as fever, headaches, sweating, increased temperature, excessive tiredness: these are the symptoms that you train more than you should.

Another interesting aspect to be addressed is the search for the ideal workout and supplement. In conversations in gyms you often hear the phrase "What do you take?" or even "Tell me about your training? There is always an idea that to get results the practitioner hides some secret, some trick that made him/her that way

Both the obsessed, in the sense of training non-stop, and those who train always looking for a shortcut to success need to review their concepts and the way in which they view physical activity, because they fail to enjoy its great benefits, such as self-knowledge, well-being, health and self-esteem.

All this doesn't mean you have to stop going to the gym or taking your supplements. Just do it consciously, make it a habit and nothing else. Train, but never forget to eat and rest. Or the results will never come.

Below are some tips for you not to overdo the weight training:

1- Follow your diet, but keep in mind that a pizza on Sunday or those snacks with soft drinks from yesterday's party won't ruin everything.
2- Try to train 3 to 4 times a week, resting between the days off from the gym. Do another activity that you enjoy.
3- Do you love talking about the subject? Go online, read, research, exchange experiences. Make friends at the gym, or take a friend there. This way you won't be unloading all the gym talk to your friends at work or your girlfriend.
4- Take a week off from the gym every 6 months. Your body deserves a rest.
5- Keep in mind that you are you. Don't want that guy's arms or the other guy's back. Train for you, get over yourself.
6- Don't measure/weigh yourself every day. The gains will come, so calm down. Do your exercises and be patient with the results.
7- Don't use anabolic steroids or follow "that champion workout" of your favourite bodybuilder. Anabolics and "that workout" are for professionals, and everything is accompanied by exams and qualified professionals. If you don't want to become a bodybuilder and certainly don't have the structure of a professional, don't make these mistakes. They may harm you.
8- Know your body, study yourself. Maximize results with experience. Make the practice something that you know why you are doing it.
9- Supplements are good, in fact great. Buy them if you want, but don't spend it all on that imported whey and then stay at home watching TV all month. Socialize.
10- Worry less about others and more about yourself.
11- Make weight training a part of you and not the whole
